The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (“BIPA”) is a state statute that regulates the collection, use, safeguarding, handling, storage, retention, and destruction of biometric identifiers and information. The Act applies to any private entity that collects, captures, purchases, receives through trade, or otherwise obtains a person’s or a customer’s biometric identifier or biometric information, unless an exception applies. 740 ILCS 14/15(b).
